Another good weekend for the Club!!

It started on Friday night with a crucial local derby against Old Crescent which was also the first leg of the Hayes Walsh Cup. To say the least conditions were testing but some great rugby, and total commitment, saw us emerge with the all important win on a score line of 10-13. An super opportunist try from Brian Walsh was converted by Mike Mullaly who also scored a penalty to see us leading 3-10 at halftime. Conditions continued to deteriorate and the second half was a battle. The only score in the first half hour was another penalty from Mike Mullaly and with 10 minutes to go the score was 3-13. The last 10 minutes were to be nervous ones for our supporters as Crescent had a converted try and the gap was down to 3. The lads held out however and a great win was secured. The squad now have a well deserved break until the 18th of January and the reverse fixture in the 4G.

Next up were the 3rds who also faced Old Crescent on Saturday afternoon. What started out as a bright breezy day seriously deteriorated as the match progressed, and for the last half hour it was just about playable. After being very unlucky to go behind in the first half, some heroic play in the second half saw the lads not only keep Crescent pointless but the terrific spirit and effort was rewarded by a well deserved try from John Henry. The final score of 22-5 was not a true reflection of the effort and commitment of the lads and they should be very proud of their efforts.

Last, but certainly not least, was our Women’s team who faced Old Belvedere in the 4G in a crucial AIL match. Conditions were such that the kick off was delayed by a half hour. In miserable weather the Ladies emerged victorious by 14-5 with another Player of the match performance by the evergreen Niamh Briggs. This win saw us finish the year back on top of the League with a lot to look forward to in 2019. Apparently a good night was had by all subsequently!!

Well done to all and we hope all of our management and players have a great Christmas and an even better new year.
